BACKGROUND HISTORY:
Hideki Motosuwa was the average 19 year old technophobe of his time. Low budgets and lack of understanding caused the boy strife when it came to cell phones, computers, and every piece of technology in between. He considered himself immensely fortunate, then, until he came to find a cute little Persocom in someone else’s trash.
In Hideki’s time, a series of Cyborgs had been created and distributed across Japan, serving many purposes in human life. Companions, employees, or just as a personal computer, these “Persocoms”, as they were named, performed countless amounts of tasks. Another handy trait about the Persocom was that it could be programmed by the buyer to have certain personality traits, and to use certain aspects when making decisions. They were practically fully customizable. Needless to say, the Persocom industry boomed as the robots became widespread.
As Hideki brought the robot home (note that Chii is extremely heavy when turned off) and booted her up by her power button (the result of some scrupulous searching), the Persocom began to float as her system became active. The only word she could speak was “Chii“, so that had been her established name by the boy. As he tried to connect Chii to the television set in order to manage her operating system (abbreviated to be “OS”) as well as to manage personal settings and to find out where she might have come from, all that would appear on the screen was “no data“. The technologically-challenged Hideki called on his classmate and friend, Shinbo, to come and see what was wrong with Chii, as he himself had a Persocom laptop; little Sumomo. No dice, though, as Chii’s hard drive has a firewall-type of protection, and Sumomo’s circuits are fried. The next day, with o where else to turn to, Shinbo tells Hideki to take Chii to a young man named Minoru-- a child prodigy, specifically with Persocoms. After all of his custom-made units are fried just as Sumomo was, the boy proposes that Chii is from a legendary series called “Chobits”. At this point, it’s discovered that Chii can retain information -and speak- quite well, as she memorizes Hideki’s phone number.
A few days pass as Hideki starts to teach Chii certain words and expressions. Now that she is able to speak, Chii regularly welcomes Hideki home, and sees him off every morning. A few days go by, each containing its own adventure. This includes job hunting, and a day out for Chii as she searches for new undergarments while Hideki is at prep school.
Hideki's first academic hurdle comes in the form of an impending mock test. This spurs some serious studying, hindered only by the lack of a Japanese-English dictionary. With the help of a visit to the bookstore, Hideki gets rather sidetracked and decides to teach Chii how to read, using a picture book she was seemingly drawn to.
TIMELINE SUMMARY:
With a visit (and some help) from Shinbo, Hideki gets back to the books, leaving Chii to finish reading her book by herself. When Hideki finds Chii later, she is emitting light and floating in the air. A check from Shinbo finds nothing wrong with Chii, leaving Hideki with more to study with less time-- Chii trying her best to motivate him.
PERSONALITY: If Chii could be defined in a single word, that word would have to be innocent. Though she is technically a robot, Chii does little to show as much, with her constant influx of emotion-- curious, happy, intrigued, sad...the list goes on and on. She could possibly be compared to an infant; always curious about how and why things are. Sometimes, though, her curiosity gets the Persocom into trouble, such as getting lost after wandering around. She’s not always aware of her surroundings, and can be quite gullible. Whenever she learns something new, Chii will proclaim it to the world -to herself, as well- with much enthusiasm, and repeat it multiple times as to memorize and absorb it. She speaks in third person, which requires her to know the names of people that she meets. Hideki even refers to her as looking and feeling just like a real girl. Though she is a robot, Chii is able to eat food, and finds it just as curious as anything else. Another thing that Chii is found doing more often than not is mimicking others. This is mostly brought on by her curiosity. If someone performs an action that she doesn’t understand, or finds the need to do herself, then she will not hesitate to do so.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: With the lack of electronics in Rive, Chii won’t really have any abilities. The cords in her ears may act as a defense mechanism if someone threatened to get near “there”, should that occasion ever arise. “There” being her on button. Her “on button” being, well… her feminine area.

THIRD PERSON:
A boat. With people. Chii was on a boat with other people. None of the other people were Hideki, though… How did Chii get separated from Hideki? Chii promised to stay in Hideki’s home, and Chii always obeyed Hideki. Oh, Chii was holding something. A book. Chii was holding the book that Hideki had bought Chii earlier that day! Chii liked that book…
Chii had glanced around the boat again. Nobody looked familiar at all. Chii had never been on a boat before and wanted to see the water, so Chii turned around and leaned over the edge. Chii thought the water was pretty, so Chii leaned in closer. And closer. Chii tried to lean even closer towards the water, but two men in heavy clothing ran to Chii and pulled Chii back up. Chii was confused… was it wrong to stare at water?
“Be careful, miss-- these waters are dangerous. We don’t allow passengers to go overboard.” One of the strange men in heavy clothing said to Chii. Chii didn’t know why the men were holding here.
“Chii…” Chii said.
The men in heavy clothing told Chii that the water was dangerous. Chii thought water was good for people…
